Malakka: Am Melaka Fluss entlang Malacca: along Sungai Melaka |

– brrr!

Osterdekoration auch in Malaysia Decoration for Easter-time |
So

Tag 315 (31.03.13): Malakka
Tag 317 (02.04.13): Malakka
Malacca
Malacca should be the right place for a rest – that's what we've decided on. And it fit's perect to me (Dirk) as I need to cure myself. The thermometer indicates little fever this morning, so I turn around and sleep a little longer.
First we enjoy the (included) breakfast in the Cheng Ho Café and check out at noon. To relocate it's only a short distance to the River One Guesthouse, on which I made a reservation yesterday. Like common, we can have the new room not before the afternoon so we spent some time in a restaurant close by. With a nice view to the river we drink juice, eating fruits to get some vitamines, writing Blog and relax. At around 3 p.m. we move in our new room which offers a nice, big window but unfortunately some mold stain at the walls too. I take the chance to have a nap.
It is already late afternoon as we walk along the colourful houses to the Red Square, located directly in the city center. In a street-kitchen we have some food and enjoy a Radler in the sunshine. We walk on to the fort and the water wheel and return to the Guesthouse.
Steffi is doing a little tour over the night-market later but I stay in the room writing some lines in the Blog and try to recover.
Back at the hostel, I prepare a big bowl of salad and we enjoy it with fresh baguette and cheese at the rooftop-terrace. Slowly I do recover from my cold. It is alredy dark when I go out to the street once more to enjoy the night atmosphere with the Chinese shop houses illuminated in red.
Once I come back, the easter bunny has hidden some sweeties for me in the room :)
On our way back to the hostel we buy post stamps for Europe for only 50 Sen (=0,5 Ringgit = 0,12 €). Back in our room we sort and select our photos and contact some couchsurfing-hosts in our next big city (country) Singapore.
In the evening we walk along the riverside to the Riverine Restaurant. Afterwards we enjoy the sight with a riverboat cruise to Kampung Morten, a settlement of historic dwelling houses.

My
long, deep sleep has helped, thus I feel better this morning. With
toast, cereals, milk and tea we start our day. In the laundry we wash
some clothes and hang them on the clothesline at the rooftop under
todays blue sky.
At noon we walk along the river, watching the copy of the portuguese sailing ship Flor de la Mar, the watch-tower, finally looking for the Carrefour supermarked that has been mentioned in our guidebook. As one can see, our desire to european products is still very high! ;-) Unfortunately this supermarked does not exist anymore so we go into the Giant supermarked and get our groceries there. After 10 minutes in there, we start to freeze seriously. With about 21 degC the big shops are 15 degree colder than the outside temperatures, brrrr!
Arrived
back outside we walk to St. Pauls Hill, to the fort “A Famosa”
and to the remains of the St. Pauls church with numerous tomb slabs
of dutch origin dated back to the 17th
century. At noon we walk along the river, watching the copy of the portuguese sailing ship Flor de la Mar, the watch-tower, finally looking for the Carrefour supermarked that has been mentioned in our guidebook. We
have breakfast at the rooftop-terrace and buy some red Chinese
laterns as souvinier later in the streets. But this is just the
beginning of our sightseeing and shopping tour today. We walk through
China-Town where clothes, cars and even smartphones made of paper are
offered. These things are getting burned as devotional objects for
the ancestors. Thus there is a lot of ashes blowing around in the
Cheng Hoon temple close by.
We
walk on, buying some new earrings for Steffi and a pair of T-shirts
printed with a tandem bicycle – my one shows the front, Steffi's
the rear part :)! In a snack bar we get some Nyonya dishes: Pai
Tee (Top Hats), Nyonya Popiah (Spring Rolls) and Nyonya-Laksa,
writing postcards and our diary. On our way back to the hostel we buy post stamps for Europe for only 50 Sen (=0,5 Ringgit = 0,12 €). Back in our room we sort and select our photos and contact some couchsurfing-hosts in our next big city (country) Singapore.
