Vietnam - Zeit für ein Resümee

Ein langes, schlankes Land ist Vietnam und wir haben viele Facetten davon hautnah erlebt - Zeit für ein Resümee. Anders als ursprünglich geplant, haben wir die 7 Wochen durchgehend im sozialistischen Staat verbracht und keinen Abstecher nach Südlaos unternommen. Rückblickend stellen wir fest, dass wir selbst mit 7 Wochen Zeit noch Strecken mit dem Zug zurücklegen mussten.

Zu den Gaumenfreuden sagt Steffi spontan: Saulecker, supergesund und süßer Kaffee.
Ein Land voller Fahrräder ist Vietnam zwar nicht mehr, der Straßenverkehr ist jedoch von motorisierten Zweirädern geprägt, laut und chaotisch. Es gibt kaum Ampeln und anscheinend nur eine Verkehrsregel: Passt aufeinander auf! - Und das hat ziemlich gut geklappt.
Unsere Reisekosten konnten wir in Vietnam gut senken, da wir oft in Garküchen gegessen haben (was meist sehr lecker war) und in ländlichen Gebieten oft in "NHA NGHI"-Hotels übernachteten. Diese findet man in jedem größeren Ort, sie werden fast auschließlich von Vietnamesen besucht und auch stundenweise vermietet. Deshalb tragen sie auch den Spitznamen "Bum Bum - Hotel". :-)

Etwas ganz besonderes waren auch Weihnachten und Silvester die wir so ganz weit weg von der Heimat hier im tropischen Klima verbrachten.
Lange Nase = Großes Portemonnaie, war leider fast immer die Annahme der Verkäufer. Egal ob Hotelzimmer, Fahrkarten oder ein paar Früchte am Straßenrand - in keinem anderen Reiseland war es so schwer, einen fairen Preis auszuhandeln. Nicht zu vergessen der Betrug, den wir auf der Busfahrt nach Hanoi erlebt haben.
Dennoch ist das Land auf jeden Fall eine Reise wert!

Vietnam - a resume

This long country Vietnam, will remind us of many things - time for a summary. Contrary to what has been planned originally, we spent entire 7 weeks in the socialist republic and skipped our side trip to southern Laos. Although we stayed that long, we still had to use the train to travel the country.

Steffis memories of the Vietnamese cuisine are: very tasty, very healthy and the sweet coffee.
Although Vietnam is not the country full of bicycles any more, instead the traffic is dominated by motorbikes, loud and chaotic. There are almost no traffic lights - only one rule exists: Pay attention to each other! - and this rule works pretty good.
We have been able to reduce our travel expenses, as we ate the great food in the street kitchens and spend a lot of nights in the "NHA NGHI" hotels, that can be found in almost every city along the road. It is possible to rent the rooms also by hour - that's why they carry the nickname "Bum Bum hotel" too. :-)

To spend christmas and new years eve, so far away from home in tropical climate has been something very special for us.
Long nose = big wallet, this has been the assumption by almost every dealer. No matter if it has been the hotel room, tickets or some fruits from a stall at the roadside - in no other country it has been so difficult to get a reasonable price, not to forget the cheating that happened to us on the bus ride to Hanoi.
Nevertheless this country is worth a travel!
